The surviving station halls at Nordwestbahnhof cover around 6,000 m² including the spaces between them. In 2017 NEST first assessed the structural feasibility of the existing buildings and, in a workshop with local actors from the PROPS association, established demand and use ideas.
This produced a use strategy with a concrete spatial programme: Hall A as café, restaurant and bar (886.54 m²), Hall B as a multi-purpose hall for teaching, education, art and culture (1,161.66 m²), Hall C for sport (1,210.53 m²), Hall D1 for offices, co-working and a neighbourhood office (651.79 m²), and Hall D2 for gastronomy and events (969.08 m²). A Robin Hood principle was to let the commercial flanking halls cross-subsidise the public culture and sport uses, securing affordable prices.
